Information about waste production is gathered from those companies in Åland who either transport or treat waste. The produced waste is defined by EWC-codes (The European Waste Classification). The EWC-codes where developed by the European Union in order to provide a standardisation for comparing waste statistics within EU. EWC-codes classify waste materials and categorises them according to what they are and how they were produced. They also define whether waste should be considered hazardous or non-hazardous. Common sludges is presented in dry matter in the tables. Dry matter is the result of a sewage treatment works, i.e. the water is removed. The weight of the dry matter depends on the efficiency of the sewage treatment works. Figures for the years 2010-2014 are revised.
