Financial statements statistics for companies in Åland is based on material from the EVR-registry of the tax administration. This registry contains taxation figures from companies, self-employed and other communions. This material has been complemented with information from Statistics Finland's register of enterprises and establishments.
The statistical unit is an independent business enterprise. Neither enterprise groups nor establishments of enterprises are included in the data. Outside the scope of the description are public sector authority units and non-profit institutions. All business enterprises included in the statistics have a total operating income (turnover + other operating income) which is at least 17 000 euro (until 2003, thereafter 20 000 euro). Self-employed persons have been excluded.
The statistics contain financial statement figures for the different industries: manufacturing, construction, trade (wholesale and retail), hotels- and restaurants, sea transport, other transport and services. The industries of finance and agriculture have been excluded due to their deviant structure of financial statements.
As the industrial classification was updated in 2008 (to NI2008), the industrial data is not entirely comparable with previously published figures (1999-2007).The industries is defined by NACE coding (National Activities Classification of Economics). NACE represents the statistical classification of economic activities within the European Union. NACE divides companies, organisations and similar economic activities into different industries. The NACE coding that are used in these tables are not the most detailed.
